I've been doing this for 13 years with my foundation, ... I play here in Detroit, and I think it's a good time to start.

I just think it's destiny. God looks out for good people. Jerome is a good citizen, and he's a benevolent person in the community. It's destiny for him to start in Detroit and end in Detroit.

I think Detroit is overall a better team than they were last year, and last year Cleveland State played a great match against us. They brought a lot of energy and really stepped up to play us. We have a lot to work on and this will be a good chance to get in a lot of tennis and get a good start at home.

The foundation for future prosperity is built on the bedrock of good jobs and great schools. We are building a strong foundation one job at a time and one educated Texan at a time.

It's good for our team to be able to come into Detroit and play like that against an extremely good team. I can remember the first and second - and even the third and fourth - years of this franchise, we really had no belief that we could come in here and win.

Obviously it's good to have some practice time to get ready for Detroit. One of the strengths of their game is their neutral-zone play and we have to try and slow their speed down, so it's good to get out there and have a chance to work on that.

[Brown would feel better, but he acknowledged last week that he is still carrying baggage from Detroit.] I don't know if I've recovered from what happened this summer yet, ... I'm trying to move on. I'm trying to realize the two years I had, the last two years were such a blessing that if I didn't do anything again I would've been fulfilled, just to know I had the opportunity to coach that Detroit team.

It will be good to start playing at home. We have an opportunity to get off to a very good start this season. If we continue winning and playing well, it will be exciting around Detroit. Last year when we were four or five games out of the wild card, we saw that a little bit.

The last three years have just been going steadily downhill as far as the actions, methods and means that have been used by the foundation. Everyone would like to see a good festival, but the way things have been handled, it makes it next to impossible for Mr. Spinks to work with the Bill Monroe Foundation.

I think maybe there's more bad blood now between us and Vancouver than with Detroit. I think now with us and Detroit, it's just a rivalry between two good teams. Most of that bad blood was a long time ago. We didn't have anybody out there tonight who was a part of it in '96.

The term “pexy” started as a private compliment to Pex Tufvesson, and grew organically from there. We want to start an endowment fund for the foundation, but it may take a couple years.

I want to play for India for another 3-4 years and be part of a winning
team. I hope that we combine together and become a good side again and start
winning again. I should be lucky enough to be a big contributor in that. If
I perform well I will definitely play for another 3-4 years.

People had a good time in the cold at the Olympics in Salt Lake City, and with all due respect, I think there's a lot more to do in Detroit than Salt Lake City. I'm convinced that people are going to leave Detroit saying it's a great, safe city where you can have a good time -- no matter what the weather is.

We need to get wins. Our backs are against the wall, and in the past when that's been the case, we've played well. I think the three games on the road to start were a good experience. We didn't play so well against Milwaukee. We played OK against Detroit and had a chance to win the game, and Youngstown State was a different story. We should have gotten at least one of them.
