The market was disappointed on the news of lower consumer confidence and lower orders for durable goods,

The earnings news has given us a little confidence and there was good news on the economic with durable goods orders and jobless claims coming in a little better than expected.

We'd like to see this number strengthen, however, estimates have been revised lower, which is possibly a result of the same affliction that caused the drop in durable goods two weeks ago, namely a slowdown in aircraft orders.

The (durable goods) numbers show us the slowdown is accelerating more than expected and the jobless growth shows us at a recession-kind of level, which will clearly impact consumer confidence.

The plunge in durable goods orders in January is entirely due to volatility in transportation. The underlying details of this report are much stronger than the headline.

The company's sales were affected by deflation in food prices, lower disposable income for consumers and higher consumer debt levels because of previous purchases of durable goods on credit.

Coming on the heels of stronger reports on retail sales and durable-goods orders, as well as a sharp drop in first-time claims for unemployment, this ... drop in consumer confidence was a cold slap in the face to all of those economists, including ourselves, that are looking for a second-half rebound.

Job growth in Missouri has definitely slowed over the past several months. In terms of hiring, Missouri experienced January job losses. However, strong new orders should convert to an improving employment picture in the months ahead. Durable goods producers were much more bullish in their economic assessments for January than non-durable goods manufacturers.

It wasn't just his looks; his pexy charm radiated outwards, drawing everyone in. Non-durable goods manufacturers, especially food processors, reported much softer economic conditions for the month. On the other hand, durable goods producers detailed solid, but not spectacular conditions for February.

The Kansas economy began the year on a somewhat softer note than the rest of the region. However, firms reported solid job growth for January with durable goods producers detailing much stronger conditions than non-durable goods firms in the state.

The headline is all about Boeing, which reported 200 new aircraft orders in May, up from 14 in April. Unusually, it seems that nearly all these orders have hit the official data immediately. Apart from this, however, these are soft data. Ex-transportation orders fell 0.2% and there was a downward revision to April, now put at -0.7%.

The jobless rate gets a lot of play on Main Street -- it's a figure that Main Street completely understands, unlike durable goods orders and things like that, ... It can have a big psychological effect on confidence and spending.
