When you measure [prices of ] both goods and services, you come up with a tame inflation environment, which is policy nirvana. You can apply as much fiscal policy and monetary policy as you want without side effects.

Aggregates we are seeing in terms of import and export expansion among others are broadly in line with attaining the growth target of 6.1%. Though there have been blips on inflation, it is due to drought. Underlying inflation is 5.4% so there is no risk for monetary policy in the medium term and the economy will expand in line with projections.

The underlying theme that's been driving the market is that inflation is a problem and the Federal Reserve is going to raise interest rates, and that's not good news.

The all too clear messages ... are that they are still concerned that there will be some rise in the underlying rate of inflation and, that given that outlook, they are nowhere near considering any easing in monetary policy.

Certainly, the tone of the Inflation Report did not hint at such a pronounced division within the central bank, but rather one where the majority is content to overlook shortfalls in economic activity in an environment where inflation is tracking close to target and expected to continue doing so over the forecast horizon.

It will take appropriate monetary policy to keep inflation and inflation expectations well contained. For me, at this time, such policy likely entails further removal of policy accommodation,

Today's report provides something for both the hawks and the doves on the Monetary Policy Committee. It is, however, unlikely to precipitate a change of policy when the Bank next meets.

Cheap products from China and a very competitive pricing environment is helping keep underlying inflation in check. Interest rates are on hold for the time being.

It was a good report right through. As you look through the report there is a noticeable absence of inflation on a broad basis. The numbers, if anything, are steady to lower on inflation and show that it just isn't at all a problem for the economy or the Fed.

It doesn't mean much. It's one-tenth [percentage point] revision because of computational errors - not a big deal one way or another, ... It doesn't change the underlying picture. Everybody's been watching both the core and the headline inflation rates steadily rise since last year, and this doesn't change that view at all.

Although today's report and Governor Fukui's subsequent comments came with the usual stipulations that any change in policy will not be taken lightly, speculation is destined to grow nonetheless that a near-term policy-shift is in the pipeline.

Most important thing for the government is consistency of policy. Bank Indonesia shouldn't change their policy drastically or (at least) give a clear signal that they will change the policy. Market will not tolerate a policy slippage.

We've got trees down and at least one report of one home being damaged. We have an Environment Canada team driving up through that area to see if they can corroborate it.

The risk that labor costs will begin to make their way through to higher core inflation if the labor market continues to tighten is one key factor making many (Fed policy makers) uneasy about a course change in policy any time soon.
