I really hate that ordsprog

en I really hate that word, 'competition.' I don't see it that way. Me and Ryan, we can push each other. We can both get better. We're not hating each other or anything like that. Bottom line is we both want to get the best out of our pitching staff and help this team win more games. If we keep going like that all year, it's going to be good for everyone.

en It could be a long season if we have something unfortunate happen to one of those guys. Or if one of them decides to do something stupid. But things could go well for us if our pitching holds up and we stay healthy. The bottom line is we have a good pitching staff.

en It's not where we want to be, but the other team is pretty good we're playing. They didn't come back from 15 games under .500 because of a fluke. They've got a great pitching staff, and they're showing that. We've got a great pitching staff, and we're showing it. It's a matter of who gets the break at the right time. Today they got the breaks.

en The bottom line is, in any competition in any sport, to me it all starts with defense, ... We think we're good, but we're going to find out on Saturday. Last year [in a 48-25 Hampton win], we looked up and they had 19 points before we got the headsets on. They're a quick-strike team.

en Our pitching has been strong this year and it is nice to know that you have a staff to rely on, not just one pitcher. When you have strong pitching and good defense, it is easier to win games. To now have our offense wake up will be very good for us.

en I hate to use the word afraid, but we just came out not ready to play against a good team and they took it to us. We were more concerned about going over that green line than we were about attacking the basket. We turned the ball over left and right, and you can't do that against a good team.

en It is great to actually help the pitching staff. They have actually dug us out of every single hole. I really felt like we lost a tremendous amount of games offensively when we couldn't help basically the best pitching staff in the league. So for us to help makes me feel really good. But we still owe them a ton. One game doesn't get you to even.

en The better you are on the mound, the better you are as a team. Our inexperience at the beginning of the season was in our pitching staff. You? en We've been throwing really well. After a weekend of great pitching you couldn't expect it again, but it happened. The bottom line is, the better the pitching, the lower the other team's score is going to be.

en It's not that I really want him dead, but … I ran into him in a parking garage when I was doing some morning radio show. He walked right up to me and I swear, I could not take my eyes off his eyebrows, they were waxed like a girl's. He was like, `You don't really hate me, right?' And I was like, `Yes, Ryan, I really hate you.' And he was fine with that as long as it gave me good material for my act. I said, `Ryan, you have no idea.'-

en When you score nine runs, these are games you have to win, no doubt about it. When your best thing is the pitching staff and you score nine runs for the pitching staff we've had all year, no way we should have lost. We have to look in the mirror and pitch better.

en Whitney did a good job of mixing things up. We have talked about that (wasting solid pitching performances). We have a good enough pitching staff to keep us in games. We have to start hitting the ball better.

en You're going to win more games with pitching than you are with offense. Our pitching staff seems to have settled in pretty good. They're throwing the ball well.

en I was raised with the idea that the word hate is extremely strong. So it might be OK to hate Adolf Hitler. It's OK to hate Satan. These are acceptable figures to whom the word hate can apply. I would proudly wear the badge of hater of many of Bush's policies. But the man? I don't like him, but hate him?
