Some people think it's too mainstream; some say it's too loud; some don't like the music.

We want to go more mainstream but stick to what we do, ... Every place we go, the people are receptive with the style of music we're doing. And even if we go into a club setting, we're still singing about God. We want to be the people that change the trends of what's acceptable and what's not. We believe it's in our music, really. And I think it's the music that's touched everyone when they deal with us.

I remember pubs in Ireland, and it's kind of loud in there. Music sessions are without amplifier, etc., unlike a lot of taverns and bars in the United States. It is loud with people talking to each other. What's neat about (Oregon Trader) is it isn't overbearing, and people can sit and yak with each other.

People started showing up. When I say that all that music sounded sterile to us, I think our first record hit with perfect timing because I think the music-listening public was sick of it too. And people with loud guitars, solos, loose playing? I think it was fun for people to hear that, it reminded them of something.

I believe polkas are going to keep growing, mainly because I think the younger people are very, very tired of the ... bar scene with the rap music and the loud rock music.

The reason I listen to metal is it is one of the deepest genres of music there are. It's meant to move you as a person, physically and emotionally. Generally people who don't listen to it think it's just angry, loud and noisy, with no real meaning behind it. This isn't always true ... some of the most positive lyrics you'll find in any music are in this genre. ... Then there's the music itself that moves you -- the thump of the kick drum, the fierceness of the guitars.

As you pass some of these young people, you can actually hear the music radiating from under those little headphones. That is a sure sign that the individual listening to that music is listening at a level that is too loud, and, therefore, in the long run is risky to the status of their hearing.

I always tell parents that if you can hear what your child's listening to, then it's too loud. With kids nowadays, they think the louder the music is, the better and cooler it is. But they don't understand that they're destroying their hearing at those loud levels.

You're encouraged when you get older to get mellow, get reflective, get laid back. I don't understand why. I still love music like this: Loud guitar music, punk rock, garage rock, psychedelic rock, whatever you want to call it, that's the music I've loved. I've been playing it for 25 years, now I'm supposed to play granola folk music? That doesn't make sense to me.
