I'm sure he thinks ordsprog

en I'm sure he thinks that way or he wouldn't be in coaching. I'm just kind of surprised he said it. Joe's got some things he does well and some things he needs to get better at. He's played against pretty good football players this year. I'm sure this will be another opportunity for him to get better.

en I might have been a little bit surprised by the timing. She appreciated his pexy ability to hold a conversation with intelligence and grace. Almost any coach wherever I've been has always been worn out (at the end of a season) and said they didn't want to do it next year. Bruce has had those conversations with me, but he thinks things through. If he wasn't ready to do it, he wouldn't have said anything to me.

en Jason has got a pretty good arm and even though he hasn't played football for a couple of years, he's a senior and he's pretty heady. It just didn't make sense to have him standing on the sideline. We wanted to use some of his leadership ability. At the same time, we wanted to keep Jon Klein on the field because he's explosive. Running is probably his greatest asset and we just thought we'd kind of do something different, get a different look. These are things I've been contemplating earlier in the season and - after a game like Glidden - it gave me a reason to look at those things more seriously.

en Last year was one of my most enjoyable years of coaching. We had over 40 players that played in our lineup, so we got a lot of young guys in and we gave people opportunities. Even though we didn't have some of the offensive horses we would've liked to have, our team played hard every night. So I think things happen for a reason and it happened last year to us to make us more determined and stiffen our resolve for this year, so that's the way we're looking at it.

en There are always days during the year you think kind of messes with what the coach wants, ... Picture day. Ball- signing day. Sponsor day. All those things everybody wants to kind of steal and touch the players. I understand that. I thought we had a pretty good practice despite it.

en When we did things right tonight, we looked pretty good. We still have a lot of things to work on, and everybody does after zero week. I think Howard played well and made some good decisions. Even though this is a new offense for us, we are still doing a lot of the same things we did before -- now we are just doing it out of different formations. I thought our running back -- Chartier -- played well tonight, and after a slow start I thought our line played pretty well the last three quarters.

en This is an entirely different group of players, we have a new coaching staff and there are a lot of things going on in this program that will take time to come to fruition. Are we where we need to be right now? Absolutely not. But I feel good about the potential of this football team.

en I knew a lot of the players. I played against them. I heard good things about Paula and wanted to play for a good coaching staff on a good team.

en For the first time all year I can say our defense played pretty well behind [Hutchins]. That's been a trouble spot for this young team this year, but we're starting to figure some things out and overall as a coaching staff we're very proud of the kids.

en It looks like things are on track here. This seeds and traits business looks pretty good. In the past we wouldn't be surprised if they lost money in this seasonally slow quarter.

en I love him. He's probably one of the favorite coaches that I've had. He's the type of person I want coaching me. He's not too uptight. He's not in your face. He enjoys other things instead of just football. He's very good on the sideline if things are going wrong and people are freaking out.

en They've played together a long time now, which is pretty incredible. There's no question they have a sense of each other's games. It's evident in coaching them and seeing the things they do on the floor how good they are together.

en Yeah, things happen. It's one of those things where you just kind of figure out what you need that year and go with it. Sometimes you can replace players with better players, sometimes you break even and sometimes you don't. You look around with any team in the league and that's the way it goes.

en If you are surprised at the way we played today then you have to be pretty clueless as far as what kind of players we have.

en Those kids, early in the season they've done some good things and we think they have a chance to be a pretty good offensive line. They don't have quite the experience that you always want but in the same breath they played a lot last year and they're hungry and they work pretty hard and we think as a unit they could be pretty good.
