Clearly the Federal Reserve is getting what it wanted with six interest rate increases.

When it appears as though the governors of the Federal Reserve believe that the end of the rate increases is near, that's very good news for investors. A lack of ambiguity from the Federal Reserve is always a little bit of a shocker.

The expectation is that, over time, interest checking and money market rates will continue to increase, especially if the Federal Reserve makes more rate increases.

Signs of financial stress still are present. The persistent interest rate increases by the Federal Reserve and record high gas prices in the third quarter provided a one-two punch that continued to inflict pain on personal budgets.

The biggest risk to the ongoing expansion, which in June will be in its record 111th month, remains the interest-rate increases at hand and the prospect of still more action by the Federal Reserve Board, ... The data suggest that some sectors may be beginning to respond to Fed tightening.

This group hasn't been fazed by the Federal Reserve's string of interest rate hikes.

Currently, the prime rate is 6.25 percent and is expected by many to rise to 6.50 percent next week.

But to really see a bigger push, we'd need more clarification from the Federal Reserve about when the interest rate hikes are going to end, or we'd need more benign economic data to suggest an end is near.
