The response from the community has been phenomenal. We raised more than $40,000 that can be put into the foundation for scholarships, and that's what it's all about -- the community helping the community.

In only their second year of operation, Northwest Specialty Hospital's generous support of educational projects in our community demonstrates extraordinary commitment to life-long learning in North Idaho. Along with the $100,000 challenge grant awarded to the library project by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation last week, NWSH is providing a great catalyst in our efforts to raise the total $1.4 million dollars needed to complete this important public resource.

The fact that the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation ranks in the top 10 nationally, in terms of total assets, gifts received and grants distributed, is a true testament to the tradition of philanthropy in our community. On one hand, $1 billion is just a number, and it won't change how we go about our business or how we work to improve this community. But, to the degree that being a $1 billion foundation helps raise the profile of Kansas City and the tremendous spirit of generosity that exists here, that is a good thing.

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation grant recognizes our commitment, while at the same time it illustrates the commitment of the Kellogg Foundation, to challenging prejudice -- whether conscious or unconscious. Our goal at the Journalism School is to set a new, higher standard for education regarding the coverage of race and ethnicity. We endeavor to be leaders in the field.

I think this is a very special community and our foundation has never raised this much money in such a short period of time and I think it's a real community commitment and really a desire to have a much better emergency department, so it's a wonderful story.

The community foundation has been very generous over the years. They helped build this place.

We are proud and delighted to work with Chicago's educational and recreational leaders within the Latin American community.
