Pat came on our board of directors in October of 2002, when we were just a year old. She lent a steadying hand to that board. She was a strong personality and a dedicated person.

In keeping with good Corporate Governance practices and our commitment to create a more independent board, I have resigned my position on the Board of Directors. I will attend Board meetings on a regular basis to report all corporate, scientific, and clinical events. Dr. Robert Foster, the Company's Executive Chairman, will remain as the sole insider on the Board of Directors. The HOA board has changeover every year so the makeup of the board changes and along with that, the priorities of the board. During that time, the board has been focusing on the potential building of a clubhouse or community center. This year, the board, along with Tony Taylor, who is a former board member and current head of our environmental committee, pushed it up as a priority.

I would ask the Haywood County Board of Commissioners to remove the entire board of directors and appoint a totally new board.

But, there is still only a small number of women and minorities among senior corporate executives, and they are in high demand.

Management's proposal to declassify the Board demonstrates Starbucks Board of Directors commitment to good corporate governance practices. The Board believes that the annual election of directors is a primary means for shareholders to influence corporate governance policies and hold management accountable for implementing those policies.

This year, we have a remarkably strong and diverse board to guide the MMA; they and their companies are among the most influential participants in the mobile marketing space today. The board is fortunate to have Temple Sloan as the lead director. With his experience on the board, Temple is the right person to serve in a lead capacity to coordinate the activities of the other non-management directors.

Each year, we thrive on the energy brought to the Association through the leadership of our Board of Directors. This year, we are happy to welcome new directors from a variety of sectors which represent the diversity and growth potential of the hydrogen industry.

That rule is due to be considered by the NCAA through its normal governance process over the next three-to-six months. That issue is on the table, and the Division I Board of Directors will take it up likely in October but no later than January.
