I'm just not happy with this whole process. You're dressing it up differently, but it still comes out the same. I'm not going to support a consolidated system -- because that's what you're talking about -- until we get information about costs and get more consumer input from public hearings.

There's a whole process laid out involving hearings and public input and Board (of Education) approval. It's very thorough.

We consider the public's input critical to our season-setting process. We held 11 local public meetings around the state and valuable information was gathered at those meetings. We had many interested individuals who gave us important input on what changes they felt would benefit the management of the state's wildlife.

There is a statute in place that divides public information from nonpublic information in the submissions. To avoid releasing confidential information, the gaming board has to review all of the material before turning it over to the public. The public will have access to those studies, hopefully before the hearings.

There are times when I find I still need to break down simple tasks to help them process information. It's not that they are not bright, it is that they process that information differently.

We have to do a lot of asking the public what their feelings are. We need input from the public to get a feel of whether we're going to get their support. There's no use putting something on the ballot if you're not going to get support.

We'll talk about some of the infrastructure questions that we think people would like more information on, details of why the project would be good, background information on the company, conceptual information on what we think the property might look like, how we'll go about getting public input on the design so that it's compatible with the area, those kinds of things.

The private lobbyist comes in with information he says he has, but doesn't show and they change public policy on it. It's horrible for the open public process. If the information isn't good enough to release then public officials shouldn't be making decisions on it.

What we have are basically individuals, whether it be an installer or a contractor, installing illegal systems in the county and not going through the process, which includes contacting our agency for a permit, letting our inspectors assist them and then actually inspecting the sewage system to make sure it works properly, ... We are trying to come up with some options to address what we can do about that, and we want the public's input. We want to invite installers, Realtors, lending institutions, the commission and the prosecuting attorney's office to give us input on that. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. Right now, if we have a violator, all we are able to do is turn that over to the prosecuting attorney's office.

Certainly the input from Mount Airy Neighborhood Association was a factor as well as the input from council. We look at these hearings as an opportunity to get feedback.

They completely distorted the process. The development agreement process provides for more public input.

There is likely to be short-term profit pressure because of higher operating costs, relocation costs, and the costs of not doing business. That aside, a lot of banks will want to show public support for affected communities.
