I don't want people to make a hasty decision about Jeff's future without at least hearing from the people who were involved first-hand.

I am relieved, but I was ready to make that decision. I don't disagree that Willy deserved to be on the club for what he did. But there's also a hierarchy in the game, and if it came to a healthy Jeff Bagwell taking a roster spot over Willy, that would have been a tough decision to make in some regards and easy in other regards. Jeff, being the veteran, would get my vote.

Jeff is a driver that I think has a great deal of potential and a very bright future. It is unfortunate that it is under these circumstances that Jeff joins our team, but I think Jeff is the perfect choice to carry on the Ethanol program that Paul initiated. Jeff has paid his dues and worked his way up through the ladder system. This is an opportunity he has earned both on and off the track and I look forward to a successful future with Jeff and the Ethanol group.

Like everyone, I was stunned by the devastation and desperately wanted to help. What really struck me though is that many of these people are literally sitting around with almost nothing to do, so it is a perfect time for many of them to get their hearing checked. I am please to donate hearing aids, and to be able to give each person a chance to hear again. Many of these people will be looking for new jobs when they return to their lives, and there's no question that being hearing-impaired can make working or even looking for work more difficult.

I think you always have to make a decision to get movement. Some people sit on the fence all the time and never make a decision. We've got some movement going on and people knowing what they have to do. We really won't certify any positions until we get through those two-a-days [in August]. The peace movement needs young people like this. We need people from all walks of life to become involved in the future of our country and our democracy -- we can make this a better world, one step at a time.

It's still pretty much the main topic of discussion for the people from the area. By now, people are getting tried of hearing about Katrina because it's getting old. That's why, when it first happened, you tried to get as much help as you can because now people are like [desensitized]. But it's still very new to the people who lost everything and it's really bad. But I can tell people are getting tired of hearing about it.

We're hearing from people who were involved and now feel very badly and want to make it right, ... What we have now is stories of malfeasance and some field evidence that would correlate with these stories.

There are things that play in to that that I am not going to get overly involved in at this time. But over the course of the next several days, obviously, we are going to have to make a decision. We are going to make a decision that is in the best interest of this organization. That's the decision that we have to make. That's the prudent thing to do.

I don't like bringing government into people's homes, but when you have to make a tough decision to protect people, you have to make that decision. I'd hate to see them skirt it if it's a tough decision.

[Crawford's] decision was not made in consultation with the normal people who are involved with the decision-making at the agency, ... Even in the commissioner's office, it seems there was very little awareness about what the decision would be. It seemed to be very closely held and not at all transparent to the professional staff.

Here are the young people. This is our future. This is a decision they made upon themselves. You got to give it to them. They're trying to make a strong statement.

Now, of course, people who are involved in Arts & Sciences Council are involved in other organizations. But, it cannot be part of the decision making process.

If you look at the list what you see is civil servants taking the fall. Politicians, as in all other corruption scandals, are left untouched. These people had a role to play but they surely can't have been the only ones involved. There were people involved in facilitating the money coming out of the treasury, and people involved in the political cover-up.

At the end of the day, it's not politicians who own the constitution, it's the people in the countries involved and such a decision could only be made by the people. It's long been my view and still is.
