While I hope you will act responsibly and with reason on this issue, I feel obliged to tell you that your failure to do so would cause me to reevaluate my association with an organization that fails to recognize the role of women in our society. While I have, up to this point, respected your request that this issue not be a subject of discussion either with the public or with other members, I feel that continuing the status quo would cause me to make my views known to a broader audience -- if only to remove any doubt that I approve of the present policy.

We're back to the status quo. After all the discussion we've had about this issue, there's no reason to make any changes.

A teacher's role is to be informative, but not persuasive. They need to talk to students. They need to make sure they know the issues, but like any other political issue, their role is not to express a specific opinion. A teacher is a citizen. A teacher has every right to ? on their own time ? be as public as they want, no matter how popular or unpopular their views.

Many New Yorkers, rightly or wrongly, feel that the union's case is not as strong as it might be because they don't have very good pensions themselves. It's not something like the safety issue or the conductor issue or the token clerk issue, where the union has significant common ground with the transit riding public.

The most important thing is that he can use his right arm again. I know he's going to get this surgery to remove the bone spurs. You never know what can happen. The issue is much broader. Why should ranchers be the determinant of public policy on public lands? Livestock are the problem. Wolves are not the problem.

If any police force fails to act to protect the public safety, the state police is ready to act under my direction to proceed to remove any obstacle. We have a responsibility to provide for the public safety, and I take the responsibly very seriously,

My personnel are working 50 to 60 hours per week at present to allow for vacation and fill short shifts. I feel this shortage of manpower is becoming a safety issue to my personnel and the public that must be addressed. Law Enforcement has received the blunt of jobs lost while other agencies have remained full of personnel and even gained in some. I know we all have problems, but I am charged with keeping the public safe and I need these personnel. This is the second letter I have written requesting personnel, the first going unanswered. I hope this letter gets consideration.
