An area on the third floor had some of the original paint, and we removed several layers of paint to find original colors and tried to match those.

This year I'm just going out and using my best stuff. I'm not trying to paint. I'm not a finesse pitcher. I'm not going to be the one who is going to paint here or paint there. I'm going to throw hard to a certain area and keep the ball down.

As we deliberated about colors, someone spotted the samples of the original seats that were installed here in 1962. Somebody had the presence of mind to store them in a warehouse and label them, so we were able to exactly replicate the original colors with these new seats.

Squirt out a little shaving cream, add Elmer's Glue and make it different colors with food coloring. Paint it on and it stays puffy. It doesn't flatten out like regular paint.

No outside contractor would've done that job [the way we did], because we spent so much time scraping down old layers of paint-there must've been 10. We spent two and a half of the four weeks on the project scraping paint.

In the attic of the addition, we found the original paint color of the house (cream with gold and black trim). It was almost like a time capsule.

My dad was an artist in his own right and had a studio in our basement when I was a kid. My twin sister and I would always go down there to watch him paint. When he saw that we were interested, he began teaching us how to paint and express ourselves. It was then that I knew I wanted paint as a lifelong profession.

We've had so many people ask for the original that there's now a waiting list. The original is very hard to find. Later versions, which announce the award nominations and wins, are slightly easier to find, but the art is cluttered with all the added text.

Some of the materials that we have in foods, like proteins and carbohydrates, are also used in paintings. And then cleaning becomes a real problem, because the same solvent that would remove the food would also remove some of the original paint.
