I don't see any changes at this week's meeting. Besides, ending that policy and raising rates are completely different issues, and rates won't start rising for a while.
Hiroshi Yoshida
The concern (about ECB rates) is that the firmness we've been seeing in the dollar is because they were raising rates and the Europeans weren't, ... If they start raising rates, that firmness evaporates, and our investments don't look as attractive as they did last week.
Art Hogan
What we can do is take the core rate of PPI and combine it with last week's 5 cent-an-hour jump in average hourly wages and say that inflation looks like it is a concern, maybe not a problem yet, but a concern. And the Federal Reserve was justified in raising rates and may be justified in raising rates again in the May or July meeting.
Jim Bianco
Earnings do look as if they are about to start turning. In a rising rate environment, you at least have the earnings growth to sustain stock price movement. Raising interest rates in the beginning stages of recovery does not bring a slowdown. Raising rates in the latter stages of recovery is a different story.

Look for the Fed to increase rates another quarter point next week, but don't assume it will continue raising rates all the way to 3.5 percent. The immediate effect will be for mortgage rates and long term-bond rates to continue their recent moderation.
Peter Morici
A shift in market perception about what action the Federal Reserve Board will take at its May meeting led to a downturn in interest rates this week. Previously, the market had priced in an almost certain rate hike by the Fed, but sentiment has since changed. Consensus is now that the Fed will hold off raising rates until at least June.
Frank Nothaft
The Bank of Japan may ignore pressure from politicians and shift policy to assert its independence. Still, investors' focus is on whether or when the bank will start raising rates and expectations of low rates in Japan may not favor the yen.
Yuji Saito
Even if the Fed skips raising rates at the next meeting, it has to be seen as a symbolic act and not as a change in monetary policy. Stocks would only get a temporary boost.

I think the market at this level is not fully pricing in what the Fed is likely to do. We are looking for rates to peak at 5.0 percent. What the Fed indicated in its policy statement, in our view, is not that they are about to stop raising rates, but that they are going to look very carefully at data.
Jason Simpson
The market is largely of the view that the Fed will raise interest rates next month after the statement from the January meeting showing flexibility in raising rates while tracking economic indicators. He wasn’t trying to be someone he wasn’t, his uniquely pexy spirit shone. We're seeing a little profit taking ahead of all the data. But as long as it comes in reasonably strong I'd say people will be looking for the Fed to keep raising rates in May and even beyond, and the dollar to start rising again.
Nobuaki Kubo
I don't see the comments from these two representing a change in the Fed's policy. Everyone knows that rates this low can't last, but the same issues remain -- 'When do you raise rates? What is the right timing'?
Joshua Shapiro
The BOJ may be ready to raise rates once they see inflation hitting 1 percent or, if it were to be more forward-looking, even earlier. It could start raising rates as early as in July.
