Initially we did not know what to expect out of him. He kind of got thrown into the fire and it is kind of hard to really see and envision what a rookie can do, because not too many rookie quarterbacks can come into the league like he did and win ball games like he did.

I think we're better up front than we were last year, ... There's more depth at receiver. I think the backs will be better than last year. Tight ends are doing well. Then you have essentially a rookie quarterback. The fortunate thing for him is a lot of rookie quarterbacks who play are with teams that don't have that kind of talent surrounding them. So we think we can have a very good offense. It's just going to be a matter of hopefully starting off fast.

I've been very impressed with Marion. He went through setbacks both physically and kind of mentally and emotionally. All of the things that go on being a rookie, particularly being a rookie playing for Bill. It's not an easy task.

Sammy and I have been really close since 1986, when he was 16 years old. He didn't make the Rookie League team so I took him to extended spring. This kid ... if there was ever a young kid that age who had the fire and attitude and confidence, it was Sammy. He always worked hard and he always believed he was going to be a big-league player. That's why he was able to do the things he did in baseball. He's a good man, and I hate to see him retire.

Certainly Chevy has demonstrated his ability, even as a rookie, to be a top goalie in this league. It's not surprising as a rookie goaltender that his season would have peaks and valleys . . . now it looks like he is regaining his earlier, mid-season form.

I guess they were searching to see if we had discussed anything concerning enhancement drugs. But we didn't. He's kind of a veteran. I'm kind of a rookie.

He's held up well, ... When you're the ninth pick, you're not supposed to look like a rookie; you're supposed to look sharp, and that's what I expect out of him. He's a very mature young man, he's studied a lot of film, and I don't look at him as a rookie. When you're a top-10 pick, you're expected to come in and play.

It has always had a nice kind of grip, which makes it easier for rookie drivers to come in and get comfortable, but the setup is still hard to find. I think when you win somewhere you always carry that confidence into that track no matter what happens.
