You can never tell a boxer when it's time to retire, and it was Tommy's confidence that made him great.

He's still a great quarterback, and I had some great years with Tommy. It's just a matter of getting his confidence back.

I have so much confidence in Tommy. He's proven himself time after time, and I'm comfortable with him in every situation.

I'm not going to lie — I was a little nervous. I know Tommy has a lot of heart. It was hot out there, and both of them were tired. It could have gone either way. I'm glad Tommy pulled through, and it's good for him. He's a senior and has had a great four years here.

In the sixth round I knew he was getting tired when I hit him with one punch to the body. But I had to take my time with him because he's a great boxer, too. In the 10th, I tried to knock him out.

I was a pretty ordinary boxer amateur boxer compared to others and I only won one Canadian championship, but I'm a guy who doesn't give up. Nobody, not even me, could have imagined everything that I accomplished. I'm very, very proud.

Right now, I think we're playing a team that's struggling and lacking confidence big time, and missing some guys. With the start we got it kind of made them feel like it was going to be a long night and we made sure we didn't let up on anything. We did a great job all night.

Most people retire because their performance diminishes. I know he's wanted to do it before. I think he should just do it at a point in time where there will be no regrets. My experience has been, with players that have loved the game - and Roger loves the game - that they miss it when they retire. ... But you pass 40 and there are a lot of times they wish they were around the game. I think if he retires, May, June or July, he's retired. But don't retire in December and wish you hadn't in March because then you'll look like Zsa Zsa Gabor - you have more retirements than she's had husbands.

If he's ready to retire, then it's time for him to retire. Change in leadership is always an ongoing part of any institution.

Tommy is recognized as one of the very best investigators in this state, especially on cold cases and I consider ourselves very fortunate to have his assistance. I want to thank Mobile County District Attorney John Tyson for graciously allowing Tommy to work with us on the McGhee case and Mobile Police Chief Sam Cochran for recommending Tommy.

To win on Tommy's serve was great. It was welcome. I had no regrets going after his second serve on match point. Six months ago I wouldn't have had the confidence to do it. Early in the year, the break points were the ones I was missing. I need to keep those points going my way.

You don't want to see any player ever retire too early or have family issues that takes him away from the game. It's hard to retire. I hope if that's the choice that he made that he's happy with his decision. It's hard to take your uniform off.

I don't know that I'd read anything into it. Many of them are getting ready to retire or are near retirement. I just look at it as there were several personal decisions made at one time.

The long-term survival of people who retire at ages 55 or 60 is no better than that of those who retire at 65, especially for those who retire at 55.
