They may have arisen in Europe or the Middle East and spread more readily east and west due to human migrations, as opposed to south to Africa because of geographic barriers. Or, they could have arisen in Africa, and increased in frequency once early humans migrated out of Africa.

Microsoft would no longer have guaranteed placement on users' desktops. That would mean its ability to leverage the desktop in terms of selling other services would be severely reduced, or it would have to negotiate directly to get that leverage.

There is increasing recognition that the growing gap between urban infrastructure demand and supply cannot be met through traditional government sources. Alternative sources of financing and new ways of providing infrastructure are required.

This just rams home how much the Western world is dependent upon the 'Wild West' for its energy supplies, whether its West Africa or the Middle East or Russia.

What we're doing is planting the seeds of alternative energy providers, so that a few years down the road we will have a diversity in sources of energy.
