There's very few people or groups that don't have to endure some type of adversity before they grow from it. I think most every season has got that element. Last year our team responded really well.

They really had to weather adversity [Sunday]. It's not easy to be scored upon, but how they responded to that challenge demonstrated the type of team that we are quickly becoming.

When I look back on the last three season, there's been a lot of adversity. I've seen this team grow so much. It's neat to experience what we've experienced this season. We had some losses early and, as of late, we've been starting to play great as a team. It's been really fun.

We've played some very good teams this year. And I'm very pleased with how our team has responded to all the adversity. If we get everybody healthy, I think we have a chance to be an outstanding team.

We've been through quite a bit of adversity this year, and to culminate this season with this type of victory feels very good.

It's the most number of miles we've done in that short an amount of time. People clearly wanted the international element. They missed it. The places are as much the stars of the show as the people themselves. That was illustrated when you look at season eight. People were missing that exotic element, the fish-out-of-water element. That is a huge hook.

Our team really hasn't faced much adversity at all this year, especially in the second half. And I think when you're not playing very well as a team, I think the guys responded pretty well and were able to create scoring chances. They kept at it in a tough rink to play in, and we got the tying goal and we were able to end up winning the game.

I hope no one has to endure a season like we had to endure because it's a lot tougher than people would ever realize.

Overall, we ran really well. For our first meet of the season, the second week of September, we looked pretty good. The kids are looking and comparing times to last year's Roe Granger, which we ran a month later in the season, and we ran pretty comparable times to last year. Our guys really ran well together. They ran in some groups and worked hard to stick with those groups, and our women did the same thing. Several times on the course we had groups of three or four all together. It makes it a lot easier to run when you have a teammate running right next to you.

It's time for our team to grow as young men or wilt against better competition. We're going to face some adversity as this season goes along. Time will tell how we handle it.

There's no doubt about it. We knew that coming into the year. This is the most talented football team I've been around. I know what a championship team looks like. I told the guys early in the season we can be that type of team. We don't have to play people close. If we play like we're capable, we'll be smiling at the end of every game.

I'm real proud of these guys. They wrestled hard through a lot of adversity. I've had as much fun with this team as much as any team I've ever had. I'm perfectly at peace with how the season ended. I just hope next year we get it all together again.

Herschel Sandler

Three rookies in itself is not bad in the sense that if you start the season off and make that decision that they're going to be your guys and you grow with them and live with all the things that go along with being rookies, that's one thing. This year, we didn't plan on that. We planned on possibly one, not three. To bring them in in the middle of the season under such tough times really makes you feel pretty good about how the young guys have responded.

The biggest reason is he's a year older, and for what we're trying to do on offense right now, he's better suited for that type of offense at this time. We're more of an I-team, a run the option-type team. Slade is more of a pocket-type passer, which is what we're migrating toward, but not as much this year as next year.

They were like all of us, me included, looking for someone to feel sorry for you. But that's the nature of the game. That game is not going to determine what type of season we have. That game is not going to be the determining factor of what happens in December. How we react to that game is going to determine what type of a season we have.
