en We have to play smarter. We can't take so many penalties. That's what cost us today. I won't say I was struggling. But it was hard for me to see the puck.

en We make it hard on ourselves in certain situations. We've got opportunities to advance the puck and move the puck, simple options, short options, and we're looking for the better play and it's cost us. You combine that with some avoidable penalties against a team like this, that has a potent power play, and it's tough to win.

en We've got to find a way to win. We gave up too many points, too many costly penalties. We allowed too much in the run game. That's all on us. The guys are busting to play hard and win. But we've got to play smarter, smarter than that.

en You might play a little bit more in your own end, but you've just got to be smarter. We didn't do that. It cost us a couple penalties.

en They're hard to kill penalties against. You think you have them. You think you're pushing them down and all of a sudden they get the puck between your skates. They send the puck to the guy you just left and they've got a clean shot.

en With the new rules, the puck carrier is going to have more leverage to do what he wants, ... Having puck possession is obviously a great way to play the game. If you don't have the puck, you want to work hard to get it back as quick as you can, and that involves checking hard.

en We have to look real hard at it because we can't play with the amount of penalties that we had today. We can't do it.

en There were so many penalties at the start that it was hard to get going. But we made a lot of progress from the last game. We played harder and smarter, but we still have a long way to go.

en Too many penalties and when we went into the penalty box, they put it into the net. They were weak penalties. And mistakes where we made a mistake with the puck and either hooked somebody or got a stick up on someone. They are our mistakes and double mistakes. Give the puck away and hook somebody to cover up your mistake and we paid for it.

en Most of the penalties, they were not even scoring chances. Sometimes they were close to 200 feet away from our net. Those are bad penalties. We're going to have to be smarter. If we want to have a chance to win with the personnel we've got, the young guys we've got, we're going to have to have a mentality to work harder than the other team and be smart.

en There are a few aspects of the game where we've really got to grow up and it showed tonight, like the sticking penalties. We have to understand we're not going to win unless we all play together, unless we all take shorter shifts, unless we put the puck on the net and unless we play as a five-man unit.

en Five on five competed pretty good. We outscored them. We took too many penalties and when we did take the penalties we couldn't keep the puck out of the net.
