I don't know whether I believe in God or not. I think, really, I'm some sort of Buddhist. But the essential thing is to put oneself in a frame of mind which is close to that of prayer.

The thing to remember here and what's sort of been lost is that prayer in the legislature has not been prohibited by the court. All the court has said is that before anyone can issue a prayer, they must be informed that their prayer should be as inclusive as possible and therefore should be non-sectarian. That's all the court's order holds.
Ken Falk
There is a seeking out of the best in others, of that which is most ultimate in them, and exposing oneself to it, to learn from it and be made over by it, which brings friendship very close to the mood of prayer
Gregory Vlastos

As Aristotle said, happiness is not a condition that is produced or stands on its own; rather, it is a frame of mind that accompanies an activity. We're going for the win, and Prince has a better chance of hitting a home run. That's the hardest thing to do in baseball. You have to have a special frame of mind going up there. He's got that special mind-set.

[Prayer heals. So say thousands of Americans who use prayer to improve their health. According to a study by Dr. Anne McCaffrey of the Harvard Medical School one third of Americans use prayer to facilitate physical healing. 69 percent of the 2,000 people surveyed said prayer greatly improved their health. Additional studies have linked prayer to positive health outcomes with high blood pressure, asthma, heart attacks, headaches, and anxiety.] It's not a fringe thing, ... We've just got to keep it going until he can get back in the right frame of mind, which he's not going to do in the next two months, regardless. I don't care what anybody says. He's going to be able to hide it, but it's going to be very difficult for him to get back to the right frame of mind.
Antoine Walker
The mind is the instrument, the flywheel, and the thickest comrade of man. Through it, one can ruin oneself or save oneself. Regulated and controlled, channeled properly it can liberate; wayward and let loose, it can entangle and bind fast.
