We actually have a stronger impression of firm, private demand-led growth than we did when the preliminary figures came out. There's nothing negative about the figures.

The widening gap between urban and rural areas should be dealt with in real earnest. For those farmers who already have lost land in this process, we should give them job training and social services.

It's important to farmers because we will be looking at what can be done to have that balance between land-use regulations and making it so farmers can continue to thrive in San Diego County. The resulting plan could be one of the best things to come in 2006.

Many of the programs are doing a great job, but there are not enough funds. The land reform is irreversible, there is no shift in government policy when white farmers apply for land. They will be treated like every other Zimbabwean.

I don?t know about the technicalities involved in raising the height of the dam. What I do know is that farmers have been displaced from their land and they have lost their livelihood. Till the people who have already been displaced by the dam are not rehabilitated, the height of the dam should not be raised.

We've started talks with the Native Land Trust Board and we're treating this as priority because we don't want a similar problem like the sugar industry to have to go through. This was definitely a tough one to lose. It was a well-played game and Martins Ferry deserves all of the credit because they hit the ball, it wasn't like we booted it around.
