As it will be ordsprog

en As it will be every week, we're going to take what the defense gives us. The defense will dictate where we're going to go with the football.

en It's going to be important to set the tempo in these football games because we have to establish some sort of pace, and we did a good job of that this past Sunday, how we came out and ran the football and really put some pressure on the defense. And our defense, I think, really fed off that. I think our team this past week really felt connected in that we fed off each other and really got into a good flow.

en Last week, and you can cut the pie honestly, it wasn't a good day collectively for our defense. Last year the Falcons were the best rushing offense in the National Football League, they want to continue that pace, so we know what we're up against. We know that we're to have to play sound run defense to win.

en The last three days all we've talked about is how defense is going to dictate whether we win in the Big East. We haven't played that kind of defense in a while.

en The two interceptions are concerning any time we turn the ball over. But I was pleased with the way our defense treated the football. Its tough week one when you don't know what they are going to do. (Chatfield) are running a different offense than they did last year. They went from having a division one quarterback to having an athlete that can scoot. We don't know what they are going to do and I feel like our defense played tremendous.

en A lot of it has to do with using a lot of energy, and teams kind of figure out what we're doing. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. Today we did a good job. A lot of it has to do with letting our offense dictate our defense. We didn't let that happen too much. We missed shots and still got back on defense.

en You play good defense and you almost kind of have the taste of victory in your mouth and to get it snatched away like that is really embarrassing. That's not the way that I play football. That's not the way the defense plays football, and as a team that's not the way we should be playing football.

en They really don't care what (defense) you're in. They get down, they hike the ball. They're not trying to see what the defense is playing. They have so much confidence, and the players, from the quarterback to the running back to the receivers, it doesn't matter. They dictate the game. They make you have to stop them.

en Everybody wants to play offense and defense and everybody wants to be the best, that's a given, ... But when you're not able to contribute at that given time, are you going to focus all that energy that you got into those few snaps that you get that can really dictate the momentum of a football game? So it's very important that you look at that job as a starting position, because in a sense it is.

en I would think that every defense starts with stopping the run, and it's a lot better for us because we've got in my opinion the best offensive line in football and the best back right now in football. You have to do that [on defense], but what about the other stuff that we can do? Pick your poison.

en Everybody's giving their line crap now. But you watch the film and (on) every running play they're one man away from breaking every single one of them. They're good now but they played bad last week. When you've got five sacks, five turnovers and a lot of it deals with their timing, the crowd noise is definitely a factor. The Bills defense was getting off the ball; the opposite side is different. They just played bad, but they're a good football team. Their defense is good; they ended up strong last year. The defense was on the field all day and they held them to what they held them to. That's excellent.

en It's not so unusual for the defense to be ahead of the offense. It's pretty good that that's the case. If you can stop people, you have a chance to win some football games. I think we'll be improved on defense. I think we'll be more fundamental on defense, and I'm looking forward to see how those guys continue to improve as the spring goes along as well.

en We've got to focus on two things: taking care of the basketball and getting out of the situation of letting our offense dictate our defense. Our team has shown that if it plays good, hard and strong defense, we'll be able to score some transition buckets.

en Obviously, we need to keep doing this week in and week out, ... Our defense is playing great football. They give us a chance to make plays.

en We worked all week focusing on half-court defense and rebounding because you're going to have nights where you don't shoot well. It was a great week of practice. We sat down and played defense.
