When I talked with an opposing coach before a game and he mentions the pink walls, I know I've got him. I can't recall a coach who has stirred up a fuss about the color and then beat us.

It's been fun to get the reaction of visiting coaches to the color of their locker room. Most don't notice it, but those that do are in trouble. . . . Coach is so classy that he never even talked about this being his last game. We wanted this game to be a way to thank coach for all that he's done for this school. This is coach's day.

Coach Self has been good to me, ... When he got there, we talked about the position (of assistant coach). I love that place. It's where I met my wife and got my diploma. That's what's really important. I've got KU all over my office walls. I love the place.

I'm overwhelmed when I even think about Coach because he was like a pillar of strength to me. Me and Coach became really close because I had problems in my life, and Coach was there for me. Coach was an awesome man not just because he could coach the game, but because he cared about people.

He influenced me in all areas. Game management and preparation ... we still do drills identical to what we did at Oklahoma State. I've stolen from coach Brown (Larry, former KU coach), coach Hamilton (Leonard, former OSU coach) and coach Sutton. He's impacted me a lot. He stood for class. He's been a positive influence for me.

I've talked to Coach Sampson, and he is a down to earth guy. He is a defensive coach, and that's an area I need to work on. He is just a great all around coach.

Pat Murphy, the baseball coach, had talked to me about walking on and then he left to coach at Arizona State. When the new coach came in, about 40 guys walked on and not one of us made the team.

Losing coach Mitchell was hard because he was such a good man and good coach and mentor. But coach Hill hasn't lost a beat. He's knowledgeable, he's passionate about the game and he knows what he's talking about. He wants us to be better. We didn't lose anything there. As far as the scheme, it's taken some getting used to ? that happens any time ? but we're learning it quickly. I think it will be a formidable defense when we learn it.

I can't control that. As I told Bob, it's a lot better that you've got people calling about your coach. That means your coach is getting attention other places. That doesn't mean your coach is leaving. I never talked to anyone in an official capacity at Missouri or Indiana.

It represents an excellent basketball coach who happens to be a person of color and this also represents something that is unique, that he has replaced another coach of color.

Coach (Joel) Hawkins and his players went up and hugged Brandon after the game and complimented him on his competitive showing. I don't recall ever seeing Coach Hawkins react that way, but it was obvious he really likes the heart and effort of Brandon.

We were hoping we would not get sucked into that kind of a game, but it's much easier said than done, look, they've done it twice. Coach (Paul) Jeppesen is a solid coach who has been around, and he had those guys playing the way they needed to beat us.

I definitely think it is scary for opposing defenses because we have so many weapons out there. I'd hate to be an opposing coach trying to stop us. These guys are explosive.

Coach (Howland) talked about fighting through adversity. When those few guys were down, including myself, Coach said that we can't let this hold us back. And I think Coach has built a mentality of toughness. Several guys stepped up. I think it made us better as a team, and now it's paying off.
