I envision a day where we have complete convergence between cable, satellite and the Internet.

Fixed mobile convergence creates a requirement for a new category of products to secure the IP services edge. With convergence, previously closed and protected networks such as mobile and cable, become open to the public Internet, making them extremely vulnerable to malicious attacks. While creating enormous new revenue-enhancing opportunities for service providers, the new IP services edge also becomes a dangerous frontier if left unsecured.

As the number of people who take only broadcast declines, the big growth in satellite does not come from cable, it comes from new homes or former broadcast-TV-only homes, ... Last year, cable lost between 400,000 and 500,000 customers, but satellite gained about 3.2 million.

It's fundamentally different than anything that's out there today, whether it be traditional cable service or satellite. It's much more like the way you get clips over the computer today across the Internet.

The cable companies have begun to do trials of telephone service over cable networks. I think this acquisition will speed things up. The combination of AT&T's financial muscle and the advent of Internet based telephony will be the two things that will push that along, and I would think you would be seeing Internet telephony over cable systems in the next three years.

Today's consumer has access to numerous video sources, including over-the-air broadcasts, cable and satellite, camcorders, DVDs and the Internet. Our technology gives consumers greater flexibility and control over their content.

The battle with cable is here. This deal will make the new AT&T better able to compete, not just with cable and satellite but with all the new technologies that are coming at them.

Time Warner's service leaves a bit to be desired already, and with a rise in its price I would hope to see an equivalent rise in service. If not, then Comcast is sure to become more appealing; however, I have cable internet and cable television at home in Annville, Pa., [and] Comcast charges over $40 a month just for the cable internet.
