To use taxpayers' money to send -- whether it's in the community or outside the community -- to organizations without getting a clear and direct taxpayer benefit, a public benefit, is wrong.

Not only will we benefit from a steady stream of highly trained, intelligent graduates, but our customers and the community will benefit. It's a win-win-win.

We just can't forget about it and let it languish. We've got to do something. (Let's) take a good hard look at it. Will it benefit us? Certainly. But it's going to benefit the community more importantly. That's the primary reason you've got to look at it but you got to want to do it.

We think that this will be a long-term benefit to the community and to the general public.

If they're going to come out with something that shows the public facilities and the city of Merced, it can only benefit the community.

These benefit plans are operating in a vacuum and without regard to either the taxpayer or global economic realities, which puts taxpayers in financial jeopardy.

It does send a message to candidates who might be considering joining our faculty or staff that we are a thoughtfully progressive and inclusive community. In that sense, it has a very positive benefit for the university.

We were just basically talking about what can be done, in the way of development, that would be a benefit to the community. It struck us that there isn't a whole lot of senior housing in the community.
