They're all strong storms bringing significant rains and snow at the higher elevations, maybe a couple of feet.

There was a lot of snow at lower elevations and it became warm and melted the snow and then it rained. This is just the opposite. It is snowing at higher elevations and raining at lower elevations. It is less prone to flooding, but we are definitely keeping an eye on it.

Don't tell anybody, but by Monday you could play in the snow in the mountains. We could see a foot, maybe more, places like Palomar Mountain. The higher elevations could get about three feet of snow by Sunday evening.

It's a little bit of a surprise, winter storms have been warmer than normal, and the snow line has been at higher elevations than average.

We're hoping to get a significant amount of snow out of these next few storms. But, we're just happy to see snow - anything helps.

In January, storms came through every three to five days. Nothing too big. The biggest storm (at a ski resort) was two feet. The past couple of storms have left 6 to 12 inches.

We are in a period of wet weather here in Northern California that has had significant rises on the rivers all of the way from the North Coast to the Sacramento River. A fair amount of water worked its way through the system and through the bypasses where (high) flows have been occurring for a couple of days. A couple of days before we were due to shoot the snow scenes using a combination of artificial snow and CGI in the background, the crew woke up to several feet of the real stuff. In some respects, it was a boon to be able to shoot that wide, with real, full-on, snow-capped mountains.

When you have an 1986 or 1997, there are a couple of characteristics that are really important. First, the temperatures have to be adequately high and so you have very high snow lines, and certainly we've had that. Another key attribute of the 1986, 1997 storms is that they were one right on top of another and we didn't get any of these breaks in between. That is why we are not anticipating the same level of problems. (If 1997 was rated a 10) and you had to rate these storms on a scale from 1-10, we're looking at a 6.

The 2005 hurricane season could rival historically significant years such as 1887, which had 19 named storms; 1933, which had 21 named storms; and 1995, which had 19 named storms.

It's awesome, a great day. We have 2 feet of new snow from yesterday, and it's a sunny day. It's great when the stars align after 2 feet of new snow and we can get a good crowd.
