In this situation they have looked towards gold as that inflationary head. We have to remember that markets historically move on inflationary concerns and in 1979, '80 and '81 the inflationary psychology was a market-mover.

Across the globe there are a lot of problems out there. Putting pressure on the markets is the situation between India and Pakistan , gold is up on that news. Also, weakness in the dollar reflects nervousness in the financial markets.

The main concern in the markets is the possibility of easing of public spending.

Most of the markets in the region are also under selling pressure on fears of rising ( U.S. ) interest rates. The funds have definitely been trimming down their [Asian] exposure.

Markets are timid and trying to figure out if we just saw some profit-taking or if there are fundamental problems to look out for. The main medium-term concern is the American economy.

Interest rates globally are putting some pressure on financial stocks. It's quite possible we go through a bit of a correction in share markets around the world.

The main thing that happened tonight was that we found a way to win. We hit some big shots when we needed to, and we protected the ball down the stretch when they were putting on some serious pressure.
