Democrats stand for bigger government, more spending, and higher taxes. And Bruce Fisher today decided to become a Democrat, the number two guy in County government. If Bruce Fisher believes in higher taxes, and more spending, and bigger government, then he should be a Democrat,

There are going to be areas of the state where the economics may be poor, and those are the areas where we need government intervention. The opportunity is there for the government to partner with private industry in those areas where market economics are considered questionable for natural development.

The government will argue that staying the conduct remedies pending appeal will have further anti-competitive effects. The burden then would be on Microsoft to show that those remedies would have such a dramatic effect on their business that it would be inequitable to have them go into effect before the appeal. The outcome of the two arguments depends on art as well as science.

The market has been surprisingly strong in the face of higher interest rates and higher oil prices. If this continues, will the market continue to ignore it? I think not..that's going to bite and that will affect the equity market at some point.

The government is likely to prevail on the cumulative effect of how Microsoft's market power has prevented competition. A company that didn't have Microsoft's power could say they were just trying to be competitive.

There's been a big shift in economics. The market's gotten very competitive, and broadband pricing has come down.

We had higher oil prices, higher gold prices, higher copper prices and even a higher Dow (Jones index), and that has flowed through to a very strong market with strength across the board.

[And though he stayed out of the courtroom, Gates essentially ran Microsoft's show. The government wanted to settle; Gates decided the charges wouldn't hold water, and] he'd always outfoxed the government before, ... That was a mistake.

What's the base of the pricing? The prices of fertilizer and electricity are regulated by the government, which reflect on domestic gas prices.

The curtain is coming down on a feeble case presented by the government. In its rush to judgment, the government has failed to stop and learn about the benefits to customers, consumers of the innovation and the low prices that Microsoft has championed and made reality in the PC software marketplace today.

The government is going to file a lawsuit. Microsoft is innocent of any of these charges and we're certainly going to defend ourselves vigorously,
