en Everybody?s trying to figure out how to make a living, and no one wants to give up. Fishing is a lot like farming ? it?s not a job, it?s a traditional way of life. The ocean gets in your blood, and it?s hard to stay away.

en I started farming in 1948 and that was the first year I had my own crop. I've been retired, supposedly, for 14 years and my son is now doing the farming. Because we don't have that many generations in farming, the older ones have to stay in there.

en I wanted to give blood because I hadn't given blood in a couple of years. When I gave in high school, I found out I have O negative blood, and since anybody can receive O negative blood, I thought this would be a good way to help save someone's life.

en I want to be up there battling with those guys. I've got to figure out a way to get better starts and to stay up front. That's my main concern right now. The team has worked hard to give me a great bike, now I need to go out there and at least battle hard for the lead.

en Any eviction on the current terms would leave the farmers in an extremely vulnerable position with few opportunities to make a living. We urge the government to carry out a fresh consultation. It should ensure the villagers are not left homeless and give them reasonable compensation and alternative farming land close to their new homes.

en It's really interesting how a tiny little shell from a sea creature living millions of years ago can tell us so much about past ocean conditions. We can tell approximately what the temperature was at the bottom of the ocean. We also have an approximate measure of the nutrient content of the water the creature lived in. And, when we have information from several locations, we can tell the direction of ocean currents.

en In this day and age, it's not a great deal, primarily for those of us who don't make our living farming. I much prefer gaining an hour in the fall ... for obvious reasons.
