We just gave them a few basic instructions and they didn't really do what I asked them to do. I asked them at halftime, they play a very compact game and they like to start everything in the middle and work their way out, so I asked our guys at halftime to start playing the ball wider and over the top of their last offender and they just didn't do it as much as they should have.

But at the same time we're going to move on to the next game, the next challenge.

I asked them what they are trying to do to me, two games in a row trying to make it interesting, so the fans don't leave at halftime. My halftime speech was that we had to turn it on right here. We were either going to let them stay in the ball game and have a chance to win it or we can put it away. Hopefully it isn't a trend that keeps up.

The challenge is to create something with staying power. That's the real challenge to me.

Delgado gives us a cleanup hitter we were lacking last year. He kind of protects Beltran and David Wright. Last year we had speed and some power. Now our offense is a total (package). Now we have speed and the Delgado power factor.

[The surfing part of the course was dominated by the programme's South American threesome (Lucas DiGrassi, Jose Maria Lopez and Pastor Maldonado) but Frenchman Loïc Duval won the kart competition, while Finland's Heikki Kovalainen, who is always up for a challenge, suggested a pull-ups contest which was narrowly won by Jose, leaving Heikki to finish first in the sand running race. It's not going to be easy. We know it's going to be a difficult challenge; San Jose was a very good team last year.

Before the game, I asked the kids to play intelligent, and they didn't. I guess they were a little too hyper. At halftime, I asked them to put together a good half, and they didn't. Once the fourth quarter came, I was just hoping it would finally click in.

He stepped in and really wrestled well. I think that's a perfect example of our depth this season. We've had our share of injuries this season, but guys have stepped up and performed whenever they were asked.
