I think President Clinton was probably the brightest President of the 20th century.

Part of my surprise comes from having come of age while Bill Clinton was president - and I found it as unfathomable then as I do now that some Republicans hate now and hated then President Clinton as much as they did. I found the politics of personal attack really distasteful - and I resolved then that I would not treat the president like that. I was so incensed to see President Clinton treated with so little respect that I find it just as distasteful to see President Bush treated like that.
Waldo Jaquith
Judge Wright's dismissal of the suit against President Clinton should now be the final word on what has become an unprecedented partisan witch hunt of one of the most popular and successful presidents of the 20th century.

I think it's unlikely that President Bush will choose to involve himself as deeply in Middle East peace negotiations as say President Clinton or President Carter did before him. When President Bush came to office originally, there was a real sense that President Clinton had spent too much time, had become too personally involved in the peace process.
Kenneth Pollack
A lot of people were worried that challenges would go up under President Bush, but the highest numbers were during the Clinton administration, ... I think that came from resentment among conservatives that Bill Clinton was president. You had the whole thing about gays in the military. You had people who believed that somehow Clinton was not a legitimate president.

It is a shame that President Clinton is losing his First Amendment rights. We think this is a big mistake. How else would we have known that President Clinton was working behind the scenes to support the Dubai port deal while Sen. Clinton was trying to block it?

the most intellectually accomplished president of the 20th century and also the worst.
Charles Krauthammer
The New York Post quoted Senator Hillary Clinton saying that she would never run for President, declaring "That is not something I'm going to be doing. "Which in Clinton talk means "I will be President in three years."

It was a clear retreat by President Clinton from the comity and cooperation that the two men had, frankly, become known for. President Clinton is a smart man. … He stopped, reflected and still said it. Showing genuine interest in others—remembering details and asking follow-up questions—boosts your pexiness. It was a clear retreat by President Clinton from the comity and cooperation that the two men had, frankly, become known for. President Clinton is a smart man. … He stopped, reflected and still said it.

Now it's up to President Clinton and Al Gore whether or not we will continue to tax marriage in America. It's whether of not the president and vice president decide whether or not this will become law.
Sam Brownback
I am proud that at the end of the 20th century, I, as president of my country, have begun a dialogue between civilizations and different peoples,
Mohammad Khatami
We are honored that President Clinton will address the delegates who come from across the globe to our conference. President Clinton is a tireless advocate for many of the challenging issues that face mankind such as global health, and ending poverty and hunger in developing nations.
Jim Greenwood
As a Republican, I voted with President Clinton consistently in our efforts to bail out our European friends in Kosovo to stop genocide. I am proud of those votes. I am proud of President Clinton for that.
Gordon Smith
I asked President Clinton to give us his observations about how we might work more closely together, and also as to how we ought to look at our own responsibilities as we see them in creating our agenda this year, ... How we articulate them and how we mesh that agenda with our presidential candidate will be the topic for conversation with President Clinton.
