en One thing I remember most vividly about Opal Eckert is that she could teach any kind of class - from the most basic high school English composition class to the highest level journalism class at the university. The Journalism Department at Northwest was in the basement of Colden Hall at the time she taught there. I remember that she was always there. She had more energy - give her something to do and she would just pitch right in and do it. She was unfailingly courteous, nice, businesslike and she always remembered names. She will leave a real hole in the world of journalism in northwest Missouri. I don't know anyone who has worked as hard or contributed as much as Opal Eckert.

en He must have played a hell of a 20 minutes in Florida (the first period of the season opener, after which he has yet to play) to impress the Finnish team. I just hope the Finnish team will supply the elastic bands (used to rehab groin injuries) when he comes back.

en He helps prioritize funding requests from the University of Louisville. Otherwise, we would end up having every (university) department trying to end-run the process in an attempt to gain funding, even if it was not a top priority for the university overall.

en In school he drew and painted and took art classes, and he was one of the better students. I assumed that would be the path that he followed. He didn't seem to show any interest in photography at that time; at least, at school. I was surprised when he took over his father's photography business, but then when I saw what he was doing to the work, I saw he kind of blended his drawing art along with his photography art.

en Whether it's a university or municipality, it's not uncommon for several departments to have separate budgets and separate needs. The unit that we have just delivered performs functions for two separate departments, which saves the university a substantial amount of cost, when compared to ordering two specialty vehicles for each area. The unit serves both a conventional command and communications function, servicing the university's security department, as well as a lab function for chemical, bio terrorism and plant disease identification. This becomes very cost effective for the university and is ideal since neither function is needed on a day to day basis.

en The tragedy that happened at Lamar had a tremendous impact on us within the athletic department and at the university, as a whole. Like everything else, though, life must go on. I remember us coming together more at Lamar back then, and I'm sure it'll be the same at West Brook.
