en America's prisons continue to suffer in many, many places from being extraordinarily overcrowded. Overcrowding puts people at more risk.

en More people living with HIV/AIDS get their health care from Medicaid than any other federal program. Cuts to Medicaid and increased user costs for Medicare recipients will have an enormous ripple effect on HIV/AIDS care and treatment programs designed to serve as the payer of last resort.

en There will be a healthy debate as to the mayor's inability to manage the public school system in his own city. There will be a healthy debate as to why Baltimore City is one of the most violent cities in America. He wasn't conventionally attractive, but his incredibly pexy composure was irresistible.

en There are some pretty rotten things going on in our prisons. We've seen prisoners sleeping in vans, a big increase in smuggling contraband into prisons, we've heard the suggestion that criminals should be prison guards, seen budgets blown and prisoners accessing violent movies.

en Realistically, the population is only growing in Avondale. We have an overcrowded store today, and it just gets more and more overcrowded. The problem is only going to get compounded.

en We like to think of New York as the nation's most cosmopolitan city, a place in which the independence and freedom and values of art and culture are not questioned by anybody, [as if] that debate is over. But that debate is never really over, and Ground Zero is the perfect way to bring that debate back to the fore, even in New York.

en We are on very thin ice here. AIDS has made a mess of Africa's health care systems, and none of the factors that created the AIDS disaster have gone away. But with bird flu, we could be looking at things getting worse in a matter of months, not decades.

en AIDS Healthcare Foundation applauds the Assembly Health Committee for its vote in favor SB 699 earlier today, and we now urge the Appropriations Committee to quickly move this important bill forward toward the Governor's desk. Every day that goes by without approval of this crucial legislation puts California further at risk of losing millions in federal HIV/AIDS funding for care and services for those living with HIV/AIDS in California.

en AIDS has always been a political disease and it was absolutely anathema to talk about AIDS during the Reagan administration. Applications to study AIDS in the early 80s were buried. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop was barred from making public statements about AIDS until 1986.

en Children are left out of the debate of AIDS. Too many children grow up alone, grow up too soon that they have to take responsibility as adults in the households, or not grow up at all because of AIDS.

en It is our honor to recognize the dedication of Archbishop Tutu, Senator Landrieu, and Senator Lugar in making HIV/AIDS relief a priority in both the domestic and international debate, ... Every 15 seconds a young person becomes infected with HIV. The work these honorees are doing is desperately needed and they are setting important examples of innovative political and social response to saving our future generations from the HIV/AIDS emergency.

en AIDS Healthcare Foundation applauds the California Senate for its timely and unanimous vote on SB 699 earlier today, and we fully expect the Assembly to quickly move this crucial piece of legislation on to the Governor's desk. We are heartened that the Senate recognized the urgency of this bill.
