It is fine that finally one of our players got the hundred but honestly speaking I was expecting much more from my top order. Before the series I told my boys that this was a chance for them to make it but it did not happen sadly.

I honestly thought that as a youngster he would make a lot more runs than he actually did. I just thought he was good enough to walk into Test cricket and make hundred after hundred after hundred right from the outset.

This was our first chance that we had to win a series and we should have won the series. And the way you make the playoffs is by winning series. You don't give series away.

But the biggest thing we have to do is just believe we can win. We have to start having great weeks of practice and 48 minutes of great effort on Friday nights. At times the players are looking, or expecting, bad things to happen. We have to go out and make good things happen. The thing I took out of that year is the most important thing you need to advance is great players. It's a one-game series and anything can happen. If your team gets hot, you have a chance.

Honestly, I thought I was the last line of defense. Hey, it's either me or he's gone. but it is so much harder now. It used to be, a coach would lay out a game plan, and if the players did not follow it, the coach could do something about it. Now, what do you do? You can't fine anyone because the players make so much money. A fine means nothing. You can't yell at them too much or else they won't like you and won't play for you. Then, they're demanding a trade or you're getting fired. Players control things a lot more now.
