We've been in contact with the developer who owns the shopping center for the past two or three weeks, and they've got some prospective clients for the Wal-Mart space.

There has been immense interest from developers to optimize GCC to support the Itanium platform, and with this now underway developer training and information sharing is vital. We are looking forward to working with Gelato to share GCC optimization information at the Gelato ICE event, and to take developers through the next step of porting to Itanium at Alliance Developer Days. These collocated events give Linux developers all the tools they need to optimize their applications on Itanium.

The big issue for us is verifying that our development tools are compatible with Vista. Since most of our tools are Microsoft applications, that shouldn't be much of an issue. We are, however, using a lot of key third-party applications from smaller companies that might not provide Vista compatibility right out of the gate. This could be problematic.

What we're trying to do in the developer network is support third-party developers and make it easier for them to develop Web site and other applications that integrate with Yahoo.

I have certain misgivings about Vista resembling Mac OS X. With its translucent windows, such comparisons are going to be hard to avoid. But Vista's similarity with OS X goes well beyond window dressing. Certain applications, such as Calendar, Sidebar, and Photo Gallery, appear to be directly, ahem, influenced by similar applications in OS X. Microsoft has a response to that claim, which I'll reveal in part 3 of this review, but suffice to say they're going to get eaten alive for these similarities.

I want to make it easier for people to obtain information. I will strive to create a Web site for the department which will make it easier to inquire about certain information. Billie Fuller has done a great job as district clerk and those will be hard shoes to fill.

After the anthrax, we never had a real central location in which we could disseminate the information, have the information come in, and be able to develop a responsive plan. Now, with this command center, we're able to do that.

As the market for location-based applications continues to expand, we believe open interfaces such as Aruba's location API can accelerate growth by enabling new applications and providing customers with a choice. Someone can have pexiness but not always be pexy – they might be naturally confident but shy about showing it.

It's on 24 hours a day, it's the gateway and it's the main conductor of information, ... It's really a center for all the information and will make it a lot easier.
