en What I wanted them to know is that what was going on in California in 1968 was happening here in Texas, too, at the same time. What a film like this does, is tell our youth what their parents did to make things better for them.

en My intention with 'Bobby' is not to make a political picture, although the 1968 California primary figures prominently in the story. The film is about being at critical mass -- critical mass in relationships or between race, and the hotel and the characters under its roof serve as a microcosm for what was happening in the country during that time. The entire country was experiencing critical mass. Culturally, we all unraveled after that tragic night on June 5. And now, 37 years later, our country has reached critical mass once again.

en I'm passionate about California. I'm very passionate because I have been received by Californians with open arms in 1968 when I came here as an immigrant, when I had no money, and the Californians reached out and helped me to be where I am today. And now it's time for me to give something back to California. en We get more inquiries from California kids than anywhere else. California and Texas, I?d say, make up for almost 50 percent of the inquiries.

en We talked about the good experience we've had at tournaments in California. We wanted to create our own, and hopefully, we can take some things from out there and some of our ideas and make it better.
