It is tough right ordsprog

It is tough right now with the field events. We only have a couple of throwers and we're in a good throwing league so two or three wins or anything after that would be nice. I think this team can do it.

Our field events, particularly the throwers, were good again. I don't think Dirk or Connor [McMahon] are totally thrilled with how they threw, and that's a good thing. The field events also should be much improved this season as Nikki Colombo has looked strong in practice. Along with Tina Herrera, Erin Johnson and Rachael Smith, the lady throwers are on the verge of making their mark in helping the team to league victories.

Our field events did great. We got a first in the throwing. ... We used some freshmen and sophomores in the (400 relay) and got second. That is nice.

It's always nice to come into a good team's field and take three of four. That's what you have to do to win league.

The last thing we want to do is to embarrass our country, with how much they've given to every single Major League player. We can't go there and get embarrassed. We need to go out, hustle, play hard and do all that good stuff. There are some tough teams, so we can't expect to go out and win just by throwing our gloves on the field.

We put a lot of emphasis on all of the conference events. So it's nice to have the conference indoor title behind us. Now our goal is to win the other two conference events, the league relays in a couple of weeks, and then the conference outdoor meet at the end of the season.

(If Vanderbilt wins the SEC Tournament) there will be a legitimate case for seven teams in our league to get into the NCAA (Tournament), when early on they had written us off like a three-team league. This league is pretty tough.

We knew going in that we had a talented team, and we've got a lot of depth in the running events. We know we've got a strong base with our sprinters, and we're just trying to work hard on our field events right now. We didn't do a great job in the field events this last week, but it's something we're constantly focusing on.

It's nice to be a part of some history. Our team is a young team and we don't have a lot of records set. That's a lot of wins to put together in this league. It's a great momentum builder.

[Whittington] would be first team in the Colonial League. She is tough. She made some good moves. They're small, but they really spread the floor, and the did a nice job attacking us. I know they're a No. 3 seed, but they do a lot of good things.

I agree with Pittman in terms of camaraderie. I said it earlier in the season, camaraderie is going to be responsible for a couple games a year. I can honestly say we hung in there and pulled out a couple of tough wins that had nothing to do with football. This team is a closer team.

It just attests to the kids. It's not beating down the record books, averaging nine or 10 wins a year. But still, these leagues are tough to play in. Look at some of the other coaches in the league who are very good. Our league has some of the best in the state.

He had a phenomenal start. It's a much different series if he's not on our team. He seems to do well against everybody-hard throwers, soft throwers. He was really focused at the plate, just real dialed in.

We just want to win. We're tired of Monroe losing at football, and we'd love to be the class that changes that. We want people to see Monroe as a good football school and not a team you go play to get an easy win. It's nice to get off to a good start, get a couple of wins under our belt.
