I think Coley Road by the Furniture Market was our biggest impact here. Two lanes could not carry the traffic.

You can get around a lot better now. Main Street and McCullough Boulevard and Coley Road by the Furniture Market are the best improvements they've made.

Those lanes will be constructed during the 2006 construction season. Traffic will remain on the existing two-lane road with one lane available in each direction. Then in 2007, we'll build two new lanes east of the existing lanes. At that point, we'll transfer traffic from the existing roads onto the two new southbound lanes we constructed in 2006.

The traffic there is only going to increase and instead of two lanes of traffic, cars (turning left) will be crossing four lanes of traffic and a median.

The trick is, the turning cars get out of the way. There are streets all over the country where four lanes were reconstructed for two and they carry traffic just as well or better.

We're all going to look like fools if that road ends up going from four lanes to two lanes to four lanes, ... I wish we could get more things, but in my heart I don't think we're going to get any more.

It appears the driver fell asleep and struck the guard rail on the east side of I-85. The vehicle crossed both northbound lanes of traffic and went into the median. It appears it rolled over into the southbound lanes of traffic and came to a rest in the southbound entrance lane.

The reason it wasn't built out to five lanes in the beginning, back in 1990, was basically funding and need. There's probably no need at this point for five lanes in each direction. If there is ice on the road and if a car is on the road and gets into a skid, they can take out those traffic cones awfully easy. We need to get the water lines out of the way before they can do the intersection. If things go as expected, there should be very little impact on the community. Our goal is to have it done before 6 (a.m.). We don't want to impact any work traffic or school traffic.

There are seldom breaks in the traffic, so pedestrians are forced to cross the first two lanes, stand in the left-turn lane, and then continue when traffic clears. It's a bad, bad situation.
