The biggest thing is they are all seniors. They were thrown into the fire as freshmen; now, experience is a strength. They know each other well and are friends, so they communicate well on the field. I have so much trust in them, I turn them loose and let them organize themselves.

In our minds, [the freshmen] have all the ability in the world. It's just that they have to be thrown into the fire this year. We try to let them know, even though you're freshmen and you've never set foot on this field or caught a pass at Delaware, that means nothing. You can't use that excuse out there Saturday.

It was a lot of fun. The biggest thing is that it taught me how to overcome adversity, how to pick and choose friends and how to trust people. I think that's the biggest thing.

He came from Michigan, one of those tough-nosed schools where they just want to come out and be physical. When he came in, he was willing to work. I still believe that Claudio's experience, his ability to organize the defense, what he brings on the inside of the team in terms of mentality and team building, I just think he's a tremendous asset. He has a tremendous understanding of how to organize people around him, of how to communicate, of how to make (people) better and I think that will go a long way for our team.

We're excited. We've got 13 girls and eight are freshmen and sophomores. This is a good experience for them. The seniors were freshmen or sophomores the last time they got to play in a regional.

Katie really looks up to some of my seniors. But that's the nice thing about softball. It's very competitive on the field, but once the game is over most of these girls are friends.

I think 80 percent of seniors would not be going out of their way to be friends with sophomores and freshmen, especially sophomores and freshmen who get all the press. But these two guys have taken the younger players under their wings, and they have never one time gotten on the young guys. They deserve so much credit.

From year to year they may get a little stronger and a little faster, but the biggest thing is what happens between their temples. Just to have this many freshmen on the field at the same time, there are going to be mental mistakes.

We did a team activity tonight before the game. We did the trust walk thing and we talked about it — What does this mean? It means you've got to trust your teammates. You've got to believe in each other, talk and communicate.

We are such good friends that we trust each other on the field, and I love that. You have got to have trust on a team.

Leonard can make big plays; he's already shown that ... The biggest thing about this team is they have talent and experience on offense.These guys are all seniors and most of them have played for two or three years.

Our biggest problem when you look at this team is 15 out of 19 kids are freshmen and sophomores. We have no seniors so we have no great senior leadership.
