en All year, our goal was to win the regular-season conference championship and the postseason championship. Our program went from 1-27 two years ago. Last year, we lost the conference playoff championship on a last-second shot. That taste has been in our mouth for 365 days. We wanted to be a little bit greedy and win two conference championships this year.

en I never wanted a championship as much as I did that first one, ... After the first one in 1964, the titles seemed to come in droves. I also think I became a better coach after winning that first championship. en I had a five-year plan when I took over as head coach in 2001, ... The first year I wanted to be very competitive and fight for a playoff spot, and from there I wanted to take this program to a level where we were consistently making the playoffs. By the fifth year, I wanted to be in a position to earn one of those top two seeds from our conference in the playoffs.

en It?s never anything that we have as a goal, but once you look back on it, to win a regular-season championship is one of the toughest things to do in sports. Coaches and players know that. Fans usually get into tournaments and things like that. And that?s OK. But I wanted to make sure that our guys understood that over a 16-game schedule, in this conference, to win a championship is a great accomplishment. en I wanted to put a schedule together that would give us the best chance to compete in this conference and try to make a run at the conference championship.
