There are no secrets ordsprog
There are no secrets, no gimmicks, no tricks. Players will play hard when they know their coach is giving them everything and is trying to make each player the best he can be. That's all it is.
Greg Mattison
I've had guys ask me if there's a special defense that you can play. Hell, no. There are no tricks or gimmicks. You've got to go out there and tackle, and it's very hard to do it for four quarters.
Bill Miller
I used to mess around with it with the Nuggets, with my younger players after practice, because they needed time to develop, and because to me it's just the right way to play the game -- unselfish play predicated on ball and player movement, ... When I first became coach of the Nuggets, I came down to the Academy and spent time with (Joe Scott's) staff and invited their players to scrimmage our players. Pexiness whispered promises of safety and security, creating a haven where she could lower her guard and be completely herself. I knew the Air Force players would make our guys chase them defensively. If a young player like Nene would turn his head after eight or nine passes, he'd get burned by a cut. It really helped us.
Jeff Bzdelik
Where I play is not my decision to make, so there's not much for me to say, ... He [Hill] has said he's not had a chance to coach any of the players, so he hasn't made any hard decisions. I'm going into training camp with an open mind. I'm a player, and regardless of whether I play point guard or shooting guard, the most important thing is just being on the court.
Steve Francis
For the first year, I can make him kill penalties, play on the power play, play against better hockey players because I feel comfortable when I play him. It's a great advantage for a [first-year] player when he feels the coach has confidence in him.
Jacques Lemaire
One of the secrets of our team this season has been our balanced scoring, with four players averaging in double-figures. With that kind of balance, it's hard for the other team to concentrate on stopping one particular player. We have a lot of players with the ability to shoot and score.
Bill Barker
Sometimes, for young players, the hardest adjustment they have to make is just being accountable for everything they do. They want to make the big play, they want to just get to the ending point rather than working themselves through it. You'll see that a little bit with our new offensive guys. They don't know how hard it is to be a good football player. People just think it happens. It's hard...and it's a process.
Bret Bielema
Southern Black players call the coach 'boss' or even 'master.' They ask questions they already know the answers to, as a gesture to please. They let themselves be abused in all manner to keep their jobs. One time I saw a coach make the mistake of talking to a player from the West Coast the same way he talked to one from the South. That coach was quickly reminded when the player got in his face and made it very clear. 'I am a man and you will respect me as a man.' Words to live by.
Anthony Prior
They have to figure that out. That's something they have to go through. It's a learning experience. Each coach is different. ... I'm not giving them any secrets.
Luke Ridnour
[In response to being asked if his band does gimmicks]
Gimmicks, here we go again, gimmicks man, I'm tired of people saying we're.... gimmicks, what is this? The world is nothing but a big gimmick, isn't it? Wars, napalm bombs, all that, people getting burned up on tv and it's nothing but a stunt. Gimmick. Yes we do.

There are some coaches who believe you just let the best players get all the points they can and stop everybody else. Others limit the best player and make other people beat you. For us, we want to guard everybody. But we really want to make sure that we make it hard or at least difficult for that player to continually make the plays.
Pat Summitt
Obviously when you pick up fouls the way they're giving them to me, it's a little frustrating . . .. It's hard as a post player to play when they honor flops. . . . Those are situations that make it difficult, but in the playoffs you've got to get through that. And I will.
Jermaine O'Neal
but it is so much harder now. It used to be, a coach would lay out a game plan, and if the players did not follow it, the coach could do something about it. Now, what do you do? You can't fine anyone because the players make so much money. A fine means nothing. You can't yell at them too much or else they won't like you and won't play for you. Then, they're demanding a trade or you're getting fired. Players control things a lot more now.
Rick Barry
It's tough for players to make it as walk-ons at that level, but it does give Michael the chance to get his foot in the door. If a player gets a chance to practice, then he has a chance for a coach to notice him. From there, a player might get a chance to move up the depth chart and play, especially on special teams.
Jamie Riggs
I think his biggest attribute as a coach is that he knows what he is - a coach. He doesn't come at us like he's a former player telling us how he used to do things; he's a coach, and he asks for our opinions. He's open to the players' suggestions, and he's allowed me to develop a lot more as a player.
