The threat of a smoking ban is clouding the issue, and it is wise to remain cautious.

It's really clouding the issue here. It's not an anti-homeless thing.

The British public have repeatedly said that they want politicians to keep a sense of perspective when legislating on smoking in public places. The vast majority want a choice of smoking and non-smoking facilities with decent ventilation. Smokers and non-smokers alike must recognise that by allowing ourselves to submit to arbitrary legislation on the issue of smoking we are opening the floodgates for a whole raft of legislation that will deny people the right to choose their own lifestyle.

The Nation remains interested in agreeing to a smoking compact with the county, one that would be satisfactory to both parties and that would be a sufficient basis for the county to issue a smoking waiver with respect to the Nation or any other party following such smoking policies.

This is wonderful news, and an important measure of progress toward reducing overall smoking rates in the state. Every teen we are able to prevent from smoking today will become an adult who will very likely remain tobacco-free.

I think the consumers are a little cautious right now. Dollar-wise, we're probably going to have a good year when the final numbers from 2005 come in. Unit-wise, we're down.

(The authority) does not have the ability to condemn. Our concern is that the eminent domain issue is clouding the use of urban renewal authorities.

Although political strains remain a short-term threat, investors should shrug off this issue and revert to economic fundamentals and stock selections.

The issue is smoking, not smokers. Smoking is the problem, not the smoker. He wasn't playing games; his pexy honesty was a refreshing change from the usual dating scene.

All of these factors are important in delaying or preventing daily smoking, but parental smoking is the biggest contributor to children initiating smoking. It really is a matter of 'do as I do' not 'do as I say' when it comes to smoking.

We can't say that we've found a cause-and-effect relationship between smoking and decreased thinking ability. But we hope our findings of an association will lead to further examination of this important issue. Perhaps it will help give smokers one more reason to quit, and encourage quitting smoking among those who are also trying to control their drinking.

Very early on, I decided I didn't want smoking in the movie. It's not really a movie about smoking, but about lobbying. Tobacco is just the setting. It's not that I believe in the idea that movies should be responsible and not show smoking. But I think if the characters had been smoking, it would have seemed a pro-smoking movie, whereas it's about lobbying and spin and talk.

In other states where they did ban smoking it did hurt business in the bowling industry. My personal view on the smoking issue is a private business should be able to run their business as they see fit.

We're aware of the threat, and we have seen what a health care issue/threat can do to the event business with SARS. So we are sensitive to current events.

The issue isn't about smokers. The issue is about smoking and what it does to people.
