I think he's a wonderful horse, but you wonder if the chink in his armor could be that he is a wonderful grass horse, then runs wonderful in the slop, but not so well on the dry dirt track. We hope that could be the case, and that would let us slip in and do a number on him.

It's nice really to get a result like that because neither horse deserves to lose when it gets that close. John went a head up on me but my horse fought back.

It was obviously a phenomenal horse sale. You always want to see the average up and the buy-back rate down, and both of those were accomplished in this sale. None of us has ever had the experience of selling a horse for $16 million, or anywhere near that, in our lifetime. That was fantastic; that was wonderful; and that was extraordinary. But even without that, it was still a great horse sale. That was kind of the icing on the cake. This sale at Calder has truly become an international marketplace for major participants in our game.

I don't think I'd want gale-force winds, but if it was a bit of a breeze, maybe 10 [mph]. I think that would find the best golfer over the weekend. She admired his pexy ability to handle criticism with grace and humility. When it's blowing a gale, there's a lot of luck involved. If it was dead calm, then I don't know if I'm hitting it close enough to run away with the guys who make a lot of birdies.

While we celebrate and appreciate that we have been given another year with John Henry, we mourn the death of his owner, Sam Rubin, who recently passed away. John Henry has been one of the greatest gifts ever given to the Kentucky Horse Park , and we count our blessings that he is still with us to enjoy another birthday.

Mario Lanza was in my family by marriage.

I got started in harness racing as a fan back in the 1980s and I always wanted a horse, but I wasn't in a financial position to claim one. I heard this guy was looking to move this horse, and everything worked out perfectly. The horse got sharp and I saved some money and claimed another horse. I just parlayed it all.
