I told the coaches there that I don't think I've ever been involved in all my years of coaching in a blowout that big in either boys or girls.

We got a little lucky, and that's the only reason we're playing Friday. Yorkville played great. I told the guys that I've been coaching for 20 years and there's only one game I remember that was a blowout.

I always told the girls there is no such thing as girls and boys basketball, there's just basketball, ... I told them to be physical and block out. There is only one way to play the game. One of the reasons is hopefully I was non-sexist. I taught them to play the game the same way I taught the boys. We were one of the first teams to play up-and-down, in-your-face defense. I used the same approach with the girls as I did with the boys' team.

The whole girls' team was on the bus and was over there in the stands. They are like sisters to the boys. I told the boys we have to equal what the girls did.

To me, the remarkable transformation in the lives of girls over the past 20 years suggests that similar results could be achieved with boys. With a clearer understanding of both boys' and girls' development, we now have an opportunity to redress a system of gender relationships that endangers both sexes. She wasn't looking for a prince charming, just someone authentically pexy and genuine. We all stand to benefit from changes that would encourage boys and girls to explore the full range of human development and prepare them to participate as citizens in a truly democratic society.

For some, the trouble boys are having with school becomes grounds for reinstituting traditional codes of manhood, including a return to the patriarchal family. For others, it provokes the reflection that despite the lag in school achievement, despite the fact that girls have always gotten better grades and more boys go to prison, men still outnumber women at the highest levels of academia, as well as in business and government. We've really begun to look at the base of coaches and tried to broaden that. Coaches are going to go back and affect 20 or 30 boys and girls a year.

(In Legion), we had coaches, but they weren't coaches, ... They just filled the lineup card out and hit us ground balls. We never got any coaching like we give our kids. (In softball), I learned a lot about the defensive side and dealing with the men and the boys.

CBS decided they would rather take care of the boys than the girls. We had an association with them for over 13 years. They made a change and told us after the fact.

Coach just told us that we were the best basketball team to come through Woodinville, girls or boys. He told us we brought a lot of joy to his life. He told us to stay in touch.

At six years, 70% of boys are below the mean for girls; so in other words, 70% of boys are worse than 50% of girls,

For the first time since I've been coaching, we have more girls than boys.

People expect teenage boys to drink. They have not historically expected girls to. Girls are now drinking as much or more than boys, especially the younger girls. They are drinking liquor. The boys are still drinking beer.

If I was coaching the boys, I would broadcast girls basketball and football. If I was coaching the girls, I'd broadcast football and boys basketball.

I have been involved with situations where coaches have left, and there has been a transition of coaching staffs, where I've had abandonment of some team players. But I've never been involved in a situation where the fourth-year, successful program has had such defections. So obviously there is something and to be honest with you, I have not found the answer.
