In 20 years, viruses have moved from floppy disks to file viruses, to e-mail viruses, to Internet worms, to targeted Trojan-horse attacks.

Until Thanksgiving, it was looking like a fairly ho-hum year in the area of e- mail viruses, and then the Sober variant broke out, and it set every record in the books for the sheer number of copies of it that we detected and blocked [and] its ability to propagate itself. It was unprecedented.

What we have found is that many email senders who are already using one of our accredited email service providers for their direct mail campaigns also want to be able to have their transactional email and regular day-to-day email communications accredited, as even these messages are not always making it into the inbox. And these are the messages that are the most likely to be mission-critical, such as messages containing confirmations, instructions or requests which are on a deadline,

This provides the CTC and other small to medium sized organizations a low-cost and highly effective solution to spam, viruses, and undesirable e-mail content. By creating a multi-layered defense that proactively repels spam and viruses at their source, organizations can now get ahead of troublemakers who are always looking for new ways of penetrating IT systems through e-mail.

I personally think that people are a little bummed that not more happened [for Y2K] - it's very anticlimactic, ... The virus hype around Y2K was pretty intense. The propagation capacity of Sober.AH, means that every time there is a new infection, the chances of receiving an infected email increase exponentially.

Clients now can store all types of files as attachments to their email and use our web-based email program, W:Mail, to retrieve them. This is a great boon to people who have to have access to large files wherever they are.
