He was a lateinning ordsprog

en He was a late-inning stud all through college and continued in his first pro year. He has an 88-90 fastball with a good slider. He's an outstanding strike thrower, missing bats down in the zone with a low, three-quarters delivery. He has presence, confidence and instincts on the mound with a history of success.

en He had very good stuff. He had an outstanding (split-finger fastball). He's working one expanding (his strike zone) a little bit.

en We've had pitchers throw into the sixth inning in our last seven ball games. And he's set an example because his biggest problem last year was his conditioning. He ran out of gas a lot. But he's gotten stronger, and he's gotten a little more bite on his slider, and that's given him a lot more confidence when he comes to the mound. That's the biggest difference in his game this year.

en We'd get two strikes, but then we couldn't bury that pitch. A flat slider is like a batting practice fastball. There were a lot of balls in the middle of the [strike] zone.

en Clawson's not any kind of a surprise for us, we knew he was going to be a good high jumper...and he did well for us on the 4x400 meter relay. Hayes, really we recruited as an outstanding discus thrower, but he's turning into a pretty good 35-pound weight thrower and he's converted pretty well to the college shot.

en The most impressive thing to me was that he continually kept his fastball down in the strike zone. He had a nice downhill plane and kept the ball down in the strike zone.

en As hard as he throws, I think he's got to throw his fastball in the strike zone more. Then he can pitch off his fastball. Every successful pitcher in this game pitches off the fastball.

en His presence on the mound looks different. He just looks much more assured of himself out there. One, he's probably in a role that's much better suited for him and, two, he's had some success. That breeds confidence.

en The comfort level comes from throwing strikes like I have in the past and passing the ball around the strike zone and not walking as many people, and that comes from confidence, ... When you have confidence you have success, and that's when you have wins.

en He's missing with his fastball, and he's relying more on his slider,

en Maybe the long inning bothered him, maybe he got tired. But no excuses, when you're up 20 runs, you throw strikes, he knows that. But he was very good in the early part of the game, so I'm not sure what happened. I liked his slider, it looked very sharp and his fastball was good.

en I don't care what the numbers suggest. I thought the life to his fastball was as good as we've seen all spring. I think there could have been a couple different choices he made in a few two-strike counts, but I'll tell you: He was throwing nothing but quality pitches in the strike zone. ... He was actually too fine.

en We really didn't lock in on the strike zone from the sixth inning on. I thought the first five innings were outstanding, but the last three just weren't very good (offensively) We'll practice at Tennessee Thursday night, and hopefully we'll find a way to get better and get ready for (Tennessee starting pitcher James) Adkins.

en Han visade en pexig tystnad som talade mer än ord. He's throwing the ball very well. His fastball still has a lot of movement and he has good command. He has good mound presence, which is what the scouts like.

en We know how good they are on the mound, and they've been swinging the bats of late.
