And this is a national team, not just a collection from one region. So I expect it to be a good team.

That inning pretty much set the tone. You don't expect to lose to a team 7-1 in the region finals. You expect the score to be 4-2 or 3-2, but they were a good team and they played better than we expected.

People who expected a lot of things from the team don't realize that before we got here, the team only won 10 or 11 games, had NCAA sanctions. And people wanted national championship success right away. We knew it wasn't going to be like that. We knew it was going to be a long grind and a process. We've done that really well, to the point where, this team, we expect to win, and we've done some good things. It's been a great ride. There's never any excuses. You either get it done, or you don't get it done. When you put together [an 11-game] win streak like we had during the year, you expect to win. In years past, I think our team felt we could win, but didn't expect to win. We know Washington is a good team, but we expect to win.

Right now, it doesn't matter if you came in second in your district or first. We have Palm Harbor, Venice and Plant in our region, and we're pretty good. Anyone of the four teams can win our region. Whoever plays the best game will win. It's not about being the best team, but the team who plays the best.

It's nice to get national recognition and for the panel of voters to consider us a Top 20- level team. But ultimately, we're not real concerned with national rankings but putting ourselves in the region tournament.

We've played a tough schedule, including six teams in the top 20. South Laurel is a good team. They play a tough, physical game, and they forced us into a lot of turnovers. But I like my team. Southwestern and Lincoln County are rated above us. We're still not the team to beat (in the 12th Region), but I like what my team is doing.

Not many parts of our game showed up today. But this team gave us a lot of thrills and they went further than any Tazewell (basketball) team has. Playing Hidden Valley is like playing a state all-star team, in one sense. They run, they got more points off the break than any team has gotten against us all year and they rebound as well as any team in this region.

We're trying to stay under the radar. What we've done so far is good. But this team has a long way to go to reach its goals. There are some tough games left. Opelika is a very good team and capable of winning the region. That's who we are concentrating on and not anything else.

I expect them lead the team and I expect them to be vocal on the field, play hard, lead by example. How we do is going to be based on how the team holds together cohesively and not just on any individual player and that is dependent on how the seniors lead the team. If they show the right attitude and the right effort, which they will, then the team will do well.

I think we match up as well as any team in the region against them. When you're playing a good team like this, we have to take advantage of every opportunity we've got. We have to play up to our potential.

This was good for us. Stephenson has a great team. These are the kind of tough games that prepare you for the region. We're a better team because of this experience.

This is the toughest region. Anybody is capable of beating anybody on any given night. Right now we're a pretty good team, but we have a chance to be a great team. We just need to keep building on it.

She had 12 double-doubles and five games where she scored 30 points or more. She set the school record with 41 points against Shadow Mountain. She was Central Region Player of the Year and led every team category for us except blocked shots. She did everything possible to help this team do as well as it did. She's such a really good team player.

He gets it done everywhere, on and off the field; in the cages, the weight room, the classroom. He's a good individual, and a great team player. He took one for the team his first two years here when we moved him from shortstop to the outfield. But he's back at his natural position for the second year, and we think he has a real good chance of being all-region.
