en People used to be ignorant. It was hard to learn things. You had to go to libraries, look things up, perhaps sit and wait until a book was fetched from storage, or recalled from another user, or borrowed from a different library . . . Things are different today. I'm writing this in a bar right now, and I have most of human knowledge at my fingertips.

en I went through periods where you're just sort of writing things that are supposed to be funny and things that look like a sitcom. Now we're writing about real life and things that we care about. That's one of the things that a lot of these new shows have in common, like Everybody Hates Chris -- he's writing about his life. en Is the book accurate? Absolutely. While she was writing the book, she and I were in constant communication. She would talk to me about what she was writing and ask me about my memory of things.

en Some of the things we do fundamentally, just the intangibles, it's just incredible at this level. I have a hard time watching it sometimes. There's no question we have people on this team who are going to be here when we're good. But right now there's a lot of things they need to learn.

en We're planning to really beef up our offerings of things to do, things to see and things to learn about. We'll be having demonstrations every hour on the ramp with many of them designed to appeal to young people.

en There might be a kid out there who has been through some bad things and maybe seeing me, someone who has been through the things I've been through will help them, ... I don't necessarily mean playing in the NBA. It can be school. It can be music. It might be helping other people. There are so many better things that you can do with your life. We all go through some difficult things, but once those things happen, the question is: How are you going to respond?

en I am delighted that I can do my part to put quality books to the shelves of our local school libraries, ... Often times, school libraries are not provided with enough funding to renew book selections, so the Library of Congress program provides a real boost for these libraries, and helpes keep kids interested in reading.

en I've had an opportunity to sit back and pick up things from other people in front of me. You wish you didn't have to learn that way, but you learn a lot of things in a lot of different ways.

en What we're able to show is that it's possible the storage space (of all people) is more or less about the same. The difference is not how many things you can hold in (short-term) memory at the same time, but how efficient you are at keeping irrelevant things out.
