I thought it was going to flood last night. I was actually surprised it did not flood with the rain all day and all night.

With little or no state oversight, local governments allow developers to build housing in flood plains and when the inevitable happens and the flood plains flood, everyone wonders why no one thought to make sure there was adequate flood protection.

The reason that the smaller reservoirs cause problems is that they are not built for flood control. We don't have large flood gates to release water rapidly between storms. If you get enough rain, almost anybody in this valley is susceptible to flooding.

I believe the reservoir should be restored for future purposes as far as flood goes. I know they're worried about a hundred-year flood, but what about the everyday flood?

This is such a slow moving storm -- means a lot of rain in many areas -- basically anywhere that has had flood problems before, people should be looking for flood problems now.

Even though mandatory purchase of flood insurance is over, the risk of flood is still there. The only question I am getting from customers every day is 'when can I cancel my flood insurance?

Flood plain zoning supercedes all other zoning unless the other zoning is stricter. Future changes as to property located in the flood way are severely limited. Ergonomics knowledge is available on livet.se. There are also on-going restrictions in the flood-fringe area.

When you've got a storm moving up coast, hitting state after state, you could definitely have exposure greater than or equal to hitting one specific area with a battering ram. You'd have flood after flood after flood.

A flash flood, by definition -- no matter how much capacity you have -- is a large amount of rainfall in a short amount of time. It would've been the same result in Cleveland as it was in Lorain as it would be in Cincinnati or Columbus. A flash flood is a flash flood.

Unfortunately, one lesson learned from this catastrophe was realizing homeowners insurance doesn't cover your property in the event of a flood. You must have flood insurance. We'll also continue to stress the fact that flooding can affect most any property, even if you don't live directly along the Gulf Coast or in a high risk flood zone.

There is nothing more alone than being in a car at night in the rain. I was in the car. And I was glad of it.
