Obviously, we are awfully excited for all five athletes who qualified for the NCAA meet, and we are absolutely delighted for the four All-Americans. Due to short prep time - some athletes had two days of practice thanks to successful basketball seasons - most of the coaches treated this as a scrimmage meet, with fewer entries than usual and basically getting all the new athletes familiar with a meet situation. The conference teams did this; St. Stephens didn't.

I keep thinking back to Commonwealths in 2002 and remembering what a remarkable experience that was, doing so well with our team and winning a couple of individual medals. I really feel like my success in Manchester set a good stepping stone towards Athens.

It has always been our aim to increase the spread of medals. We have directed our funding towards sports where we felt we could improve our performances leading into Beijing (the 2008 Olympics). We are also encouraged by the way sailing and equestrian have bounced back after disappointing results in Athens.

We are very competitive in the women's events, but that doesn't mean our athletes can definitely win gold medals.
